Healthy Pantry Initiative
FACES Food Pantry has joined the national Healthy Pantry Initiative, a health-focused, neighbor-centered transformation of the national food pantry network.
Purpose: FACES will implement healthy pantry practices to support the health and nutrition of neighbors facing hunger.
Vision: Neighbors facing hunger can achieve their desired level of health.
Three Point Approach
-
Provide bags of healthier food for all neighbors with specific medical dietary focus on combating hypertension, heart disease, and diabetes, following the Tufts University Healthy Food Guide.
-
Encourage neighbors to participate in exercise and healthy movement in partnership with community fitness organizations.
-
Create and distribute to neighbors a list of local resources as a guide for meeting
their health and wellness needs beyond what FACES can provide.
PHD Community Partnership
A partnership with Piedmont Health District allows FACES to engage a wellness consultant, develop and distribute health education materials, host eating for wellness workshops, translate materials into Spanish, and sponsor vaccine clinics for neighbors. New opportunities will be implemented throughout the year.
